The clause with γάρ since is often inserted parenthetically in the clause which it is intended to explain; as ὁ δὲ (κρἱ_νουσι γὰρ βοῇ καὶ οὐ ψήφῳ) οὐκ ἔφη διαγιγνώσκειν τὴν βοὴν ποτέρα_ μείζων but, since they decide by shouts and not by ballot, he said he could not decide which side shouted the louder T. 1.87.
