πρότερον or πρόσθεν may be used in the principal clause as a forerunner of πρίν. Examples in 2441, 2444, 2445.
a. Homer has πρὶν . . . πρίν B 348. Attic has also φθάνω . . . πρίν, as φθήσονται πλεύσαντες πρὶν τὴν ξυμφορὰ_ν Χίους αἰσθέσθαι
