Plural of Modesty.—A speaker in referring to himself may use the first person plural as a modest form of statement. In prose, of an author: ἔννοιά ποθ' ἡμῖν ἐγένετο
ἱκετεύομεν ἀμφὶ σὰ_ν γενειάδα . . . προσπίτνων
