(I) The subject of the participle is identical with the noun or pronoun subject or object of the leading verb, and agrees with it in gender, number, and case.

(οἱ ἄνθρωποι) λιπόντες τὴν ὁδὸν φεύγοντες ὀλίγοι ἀπέθνῃσκον by leaving the road and making off only a few were killed X. A. 4.2.7, προπέμψαντες κήρυ_κα πόλεμον προεροῦντα having sent a herald in advance to proclaim war T. 1.29.
