The subjunctive with ἄν (more commonly κέν) is used in Homer in independent sentences and clauses (negative οὐ). Cp. cross1810. Thus, ἐγὼ δέ κ' ἄγω Βρι_σηίδα
οὐκ ἄν τοι χραίσμῃ βιός
