Instead of the active, a periphrasis with γίγνεσθαι may be used, often to express solemnity. μηνυ_ταὶ γίγνονται they turned informers T. 3.2, μὴ ὑβριστὴς γέϝῃ ‘do not be guilty of outrage’ S. Aj. 1092.
