Most, if not all, of the substantives in α are formed by the addition of the suffix yα or ια ( ^cross20); thus, γλῶττα from γλωχ-yα (cp. γλωχῖν-ες points), γέφυ_ρα from γεφυρ-yα, δότειρα giver from δοτερ-yα (and so φέρουσα bearing from φεροντyα), μοῖρα from μορ-yα, ψάλτρ-ια.
